Shelter Home Program
The Shelter Home Program provides long-term residential care for boys, ages 11-18. A typical length of stay is 1-3 years with the goal of family reunification and/or to prepare the youth for independent living. All homes are staffed by live-in House Parents.


About Shelter Home
The Shelter Home Program is a community-based residential program for youth between the ages of 11 through 17. The Shelter Home Program is guided by a family relational philosophy that incorporates a Trauma-Informed Care and Cognitive Behavioral model with a Positive Youth Development philosophy.
This is accomplished through the establishment of relationships and interactions with House Parents, clinical staff, and other youth.

An agency may send an email inquiry or call the Director of Residential Services directly at 330-630-5600 to begin the referral process. The agency should be prepared with placement information including presenting concerns and client needs. Following the referral an interview with the youth will be scheduled to further assess appropriateness for placement.
At the present time, the Shelter Home Program is operating one group home with a capacity of up to five beds. Due to the limited numbers, these beds are typically utilized by Summit County child serving agencies.
The length of stay varies depending upon the youth’s circumstances. On average, youth typically reside in the Shelter Home Program between one to two years.
Yes, the Shelter Home Program is licensed as a QRTP and is IV-E eligible.
The Shelter Home Program is staffed with a counselor and a case manager who provide mental health services to youth in residence. Diagnostic/specialized assessments, individual, family and group counseling, and case management are provided by the Shelter Home Program clinical staff. Psychiatric services are provided through referral to community based agencies.
