The Highlands Teen Pregnancy Shelter

Currently one of two licensed residential teen pregnancy shelters across the state of Ohio, the Highlands provides critical services to homeless and at-risk pregnant or parenting teens, ages 14-18, and their babies. The Highlands has capacity for five mothers and five babies at a time.

About the Highlands

Caring for an infant is hard work. The staff at the Highlands work with the mothers, helping them to understand child development, practice new parenting skills, and support one another. They also learn to cook, develop a budget, manage a household, and maintain healthy relationships. A primary goal of the Highlands is to help the mothers develop the skills necessary to maintain their independence.

The Highlands staff help mothers complete their educational goals, obtain employment, and explore career interests. While some mothers return home with family, many have moved into their own apartments with stable employment and a plan for their future and the future of their family.
